The Covid-19 pandemic has been - and remains - a major personal and business challenge for us all.
The Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) business and group travel industries have, for example, been almost totally locked-down.
In order to remain mentally fit and positively productive, most of us have had to re-utilize our time and re-direct our energies and resources.
One rather enjoyable and creative method that I have used to rise to - and surmount - this challenge is the practice of creative writing and the publication of booklets via Amazon’s user-friendly Kindle Direct Publishing platform.
These are now available online from Amazon stores worldwide either as KindleUnlimited and / or Amazon paperback print-on-demand editions.
Simply key in author name: PATRICK PATRIDGE, e.g. at Amazon.com
The first of six such publications since March 2020 was generated from a series of articles I had previously written for the German National Tourist Board“Culinary Germany” campaign.
It is titled“German Cuisine, Wines & Beers – A Brief Introduction”.
This, indeed, is a concise little paperback eminently suitable as a compliant pillow / room gift for MICE business events and leisure group participants visiting Germany.
It was quickly succeeded by a cheeky modern fable, titled “Knight-time Blues or the Knight who didn’t know whether he was coming or going” and by a modern Christmas fairy tale for all the family, titled “Billy the Giant visits Santa’s New Grotto”.
I then turned my attention to playful prose and vignettes of history with “Victorian Dublin – Neo-Gothic Reflections” and my brand new paperback, titled “BERLIN WALL – Recollections 1983 – 2020”.
The latter is a journey centred around my own personal experiences of the iconic Berlin Wall, before, during and after its Fall or the Mauerfall as it is known in Germany.
It features original photos taken in late-March 1985, including a “Let’s Dance” cover graffiti motif, inspired by David Bowie’s global hit of the same name.
At this stage in the process, I have recently published "INFINITY - Subtle Thoughts & Random Musings" and I am finalising a “Magnus Opus” titled “FOOTSTEPS– Poetry & Prose 1987 – 2020” , which I plan to publish in the first quarter of 2021 in both Amazon paperback and KindleUnlimited editions.
And, hopefully, by then we will all be seeing some light at the end of the tunnel and a return to live MICE events & tourism and to in-person trade fairs and consumer exhibitions.
I look forward to receiving feedback from readers and would be delighted if my work reached a larger audience by being eventually published in paperback by book publishers in the USA, UK, Germany and / or Ireland.
Any recommendations on this front would of course be particularly appreciated!
Keep healthy and safe - and enjoy reading and writing!
